In recent years, dermal fillers and injectables have been touted as the solution for those seeking facial rejuvenation without a face-lift. Dermal fillers such as Botox and the like have become popular because the injection procedure is quick, there is little to no recovery, and the cost is much lower than surgery. But how do the results obtained from injectables compare to that of a face-lift? Before you decide, be sure you have realistic expectations.
Traditional liposuction relates to the minimally invasive treatment of vacuuming excess fat. The goal of liposuction is to reshape specific areas of localized fat. Liposuction alone is most effective for more minor “figure faults” or altering the shape of localized fat deposits. While it is a minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedure, it still is a real surgical procedure and so it has all the potential risks of any surgery.
But did you know that now a variety of devices have been introduced, used and many discarded? Some of the terms you may have heard are Power-Assisted Liposuction; Safe-Lipo; Ultrasonic Liposuction; and Aqualipo, Aqua Lipo, Water Lipo, or Water Assisted Liposuction. You and Dr. Todd A. Pollock, during your individual consultation, can discuss any of these with will inform you about his views on liposuction and what is the right procedure for you: http://www.drpollock.com/dallas-allen-liposuction.htm ».

Did you know Botox only effects wrinkles that are present with muscle movement and disappear when the muscle is relaxed? Inappropriately treating a line that is present without muscle movement will lead to disappointment. For the patient, there can be a dizzying amount of choices: does it matter what kind of doctor should do the injections (after all, some dentists offer them!), the different prices that can be quoted, etc.
Here at North Dallas Plastic Surgery our approach to Botox injections is different:
- Treatments are carried out by our physicians. We believe there is risk related to any procedure and we strive to minimize this risk. We also believe the results are technique dependent, and, therefore, the procedure isn’t delegated to an assistant.
- Our selection of injectable material is based on two factors: safety and effectiveness.

With all the choices of cosmetic medical and surgical treatments, it is important to make the right decision when considering cosmetic procedures. Unfortunately expensive and enticing marketing of cosmetic procedures is often more effective than the particular procedure. Non surgical and minimally invasive surgical procedures are advertised as being cheaper, easier, and better than more extensive surgical procedures.
How can one make a decision? A second opinion from a Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery should be considered before spending the money and assuming the risk an advertised alternative treatment or procedure. The goal of our Dallas and Allen, TX, plastic surgeons is to inform their patients on the realistic expectations from cosmetic surgeries. In fact, we have an entire portion of our website devoted to this: we call it Plastic Surgery: Promises and Pitfalls.

Our Dallas and Allen plastic surgeons warn consumers to be mindful of the for “mini-style facelifts” that are widely marketed as revolutionary. The truth is what is revolutionary is the marketing package itself.
When investigating such procedures we suggest you keep these issues in mind:
- Watch for “bait and switch” – the basic mini style lift is only the beginning procedure and cost!
- Are the pictures representative of the basic procedure or are there add-ons?
- Are the before and after poses comparable?
- Who determines what is recommended: is it the surgeon or her/his salesperson?
Our website has other feedback about both mini-face lifts and facelifts for patients in the North Texas areas like Dallas, McKinney, Plano, and Allen areas. These are written by our cosmetic surgeons Dr. Harlan Pollock and Dr. Todd Pollock to inform the public about plastic surgery:
When considering any surgical treatment a second physician’s opinion is not just helpful, but can be extremely valuable. Most new, unproven surgery procedures or devices might sound really good but they may offer no improvement when compared to the existing techniques (the new technique may just have better marketing behind it).
A second opinion may help answer your questions about the new technique and provide you with alternative treatment choices. Once a procedure is done there is no going back and seeking another opinion afterwards is useless. So, we urge that patients don’t rush into something that is new before obtaining all the facts.
