Board certified plastic surgeons have seen an increase in the number of dissatisfied patients as well as those who have had complications from surgery done by unqualified practitioners. More information is here from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
This trend is related to many factors: aggressive advertising and media exposure for “new” procedures, a down economy that forces patients to shop price and seek procedures that are marketed as easier recovery and less expensive, and practitioners doing procedures with limited training and no credentials.
