Breast Reduction in Dallas and Allen, TX

Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is the procedure for women which reduces the amount of breast tissue. Women who choose to have breast reduction surgery generally have very large breasts that cause them discomfort. For some, the discomfort is physical: back or neck ache, skin irritation, shoulder pain from the pressure of bra straps, etc. Very large breasts may keep some women from doing the activities they enjoy, such as engaging in athletics. For others, the discomfort is emotional. They may feel uncomfortable due to the appearance of their breasts which are large for their frame. Any of these are valid reasons to consider the surgery.

Model

The mammoplasty procedure removes excess fat, skin, and underlying glandular tissue.  There are several different techniques that may be used for the surgery, depending on the patient’s breast composition and desired outcome.  Dr. Pollock will discuss the procedure that he recommends with you prior to surgery to ensure that you understand the process and are completely comfortable with it.

Our Approach to Breast Reduction Surgery

The patient’s comfort and safety are of paramount importance to us at North Dallas Plastic Surgery.  Our breast reduction procedures are performed using general anesthesia to ensure best results for the patient.  The procedure can be performed as an outpatient procedure and therefore does not require an overnight stay in the hospital.  Most of our patients do not require surgical drains with this surgery.  If a drain placed, it is typically removed within 24-hours.

Insurance Coverage

Breast reduction surgery is covered by some health insurance providers, depending on the patient’s coexisting medical conditions.  Women who are considering mammoplasty should contact their medical insurance providers to ask if it is a covered procedure and to determine what other steps they should take to determine eligibility under their plan.

If you are suffering with discomfort caused by very large breasts, you may be a candidate for breast reduction surgery.  Many of our patients find that the procedure relieves pain, improves their posture, makes clothing fit better, and allows them to participate in activities that they thought they would never be able to enjoy.  If you would like to learn more about mammoplasty, contact our office for a consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Reduction

  • Am I a candidate for breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is beneficial for women who are unhappy with the large size of their breasts or experience chronic neck and back pain due to the size of their breasts. Additionally, breast reduction candidates are:

    • In good health
    • At their goal weight
    • Non-smokers
    • Realistic about their expectations

Schedule a consultation to determine if you are the right candidate for a breast reduction.

  • How can I prepare for my breast reduction surgery?

To prepare for your breast reduction surgery, you will need to stop smoking and taking anti-inflammatory medications. You should also follow all preoperative instructions provided to you by Dr. Todd A. Pollock. Additionally, you should plan to take adequate time off work and other responsibilities to heal properly.

  • Can I combine any other procedures with my breast reduction?

Breast reduction surgery is commonly performed with a breast lift or as a part of a Mommy Makeover to provide patients with their ideal results. In many cases, other body contouring procedures, such as liposuction surgery or a tummy tuck, can also be performed in combination with breast reduction surgery.

  • How much does breast reduction surgery cost?

Breast reduction surgery cost varies between patients, depending on specific surgical techniques and the amount of correction needed. The cost also depends on anesthesia fees, surgeon fees, and the procedure’s location.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Todd A. Pollock, you will receive a detailed financial plan.

  • Can I drive home after my breast reduction surgery?

Since your mammoplasty is performed under general anesthesia, you will not be able to drive yourself home. Please plan to bring a responsible adult with you to your surgical appointment to drive you home and assist in your recovery.

  • Are my breast reduction results permanent?

Since breast tissue does not grow back, the results from your breast reduction surgery are permanent. However, natural aging and weight gain can reverse your results. To keep your results looking new, you should avoid weight fluctuation and wear a supportive bra.

  • What are the risks associated with breast reduction surgery?

When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Todd A. Pollock, breast reduction surgery is generally safe. However, with any invasive procedure requiring anesthesia, risks are present. These risks include:

    • Infection
    • Bleeding
    • Anesthesia risks
    • Blood clots
    • Scarring
    • Fluid accumulation

If you are concerned about the risks associated with breast reduction surgery, please contact your surgeon. He can answer any questions and address your concerns.
