3 Minute Read:

Exercise should produce desirable results. However, some areas of the body are resistant to exercise and will retain fat no matter how hard you work.

A great way to shape the body and get some help in those areas is through liposuction. Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that suctions unwanted fat cells from the body. There are many different variations and techniques used during your liposuction treatment, all of which play a specific role in your comfort, results, and safety.

So, what techniques go into your liposuction?

What Is Power-Assisted Liposuction and How Does It Impact My Treatment?

Power-assisted liposuction is a popular device for sculpting the body. This method uses a cannula attached to an oscillating handpiece to break up fat without heat before suctioning it out of the body.

Is Power-Assisted Liposuction Safe?

As with any medical procedure, there are some risks with power-assisted liposuction. Patients may be left with loose skin or uneven skin. If this is the case—and the excess skin significant—an additional body contouring treatment, such as a tummy tuck, may be necessary.

Prime candidates for this procedure should be in excellent health and at a healthy weight.

What Is Tumescent Liposuction and How Does It Impact My Treatment?

Tumescent liposuction is used in virtually all liposuction procedures these days. A tumescent solution is injected containing numbing medication and a vessel-constricting solution. This numbing medication is epinephrine, a chemical that constricts blood flow and minimizes bleeding.

Depending on how much solution is used, the procedure can be tumescent, wet, or superwet.

Although this liposuction technique still requires cannulas for fat extraction, the tumescent anesthetic offers many benefits to the patient in terms of comfort and safety.

So, What Will My Liposuction Treatment Include?

It may seem like liposuction using one of the above techniques is an either-or; however, in reality, these two techniques are not mutually exclusive and will instead be combined during your body contouring treatment.

Power-assisted liposuction simply describes the device used and how it removes the fat cells; tumescent liposuction describes how much fluid is used during that liposuction treatment to make the treatment as safe, comfortable, and successful as possible.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

While every cosmetic procedure carries a certain amount of risk, liposuction is one of the safest options available to patients for fat removal. If you have deposits of fat that do not respond to exercise, then liposuction is a good option.

Candidates should be within 30 percent of their normal body weight and in excellent health.
